Blizzard stalls Ontario motorists

Zero visibility ON Hwy 402, 13 Dec 10

Hundreds of motorists were left stranded overnight on Ontario’s Highway 402 between Sarnia and London.

Snow squalls off Lake Huron created blizzard conditions and zero visibility forcing motorists to literally stop and park on the highway.

A red alert and state of emergency were declared allowing military helicopters and a Hercules aircraft to help stranded motorists.

At one point, more than 360 vehicles needed assistance and drivers were told to stay in their cars until rescuers got to them.
