Department of National Defence has deployed 600 soldiers into flood prone areas of Southern Quebec along the Richelieu River.

More than 3,000 homes have been flooded after rain and snow melt from higher elevations in neighbouring American states have caused the river and its tributaries to overflow.

The town of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu has been hard hit where the water has reached 90 cm deep in some areas.
