NW knocked by nasty storm

Clean up in Grand Falls, NB, 02 August 2011

Residents in northwest New Brunswick are cleaning up after a nasty thunderstorm downed trees, wrecked an outdoor theatre and knocked out power to more than 4,000 customers.

Officials in Grand Falls say Monday night’s storm packed strong winds that uprooted about two dozen large trees, blocking roads and damaging some homes and vehicles in the process.

A farmer in Drummond reported losing some livestock after a barn collapsed in the heavy weather.

This area of New Brunswick has been especially prone to severe storms over the spring and summer.
