Two people were killed in flooding triggered by former Tropical Storm Emily as its remnants moved northwest over the Caribbean.

Forecasters say Emily has a 60 percent chance of regenerating into a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours.

Emily, the fifth named storm of the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season, lost intensity yesterday as it rolled over mountainous Hispaniola island, dumping rain on Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Some 7,000 were forced to leave their homes in the D.R., with dozens of villages cut off by floodwaters and swollen rivers.
