The American South baked during the month of July and stats from the U.S. Weather Service show Oklahoma and Texas had their warmest months ever on record.

Oklahoma had an average temperature of 31.6 C/88.9 F.

Texas recorded a monthly average of 30.6 C/87.1 F.

Oklahoma’s statewide average temperature was the warmest on record for any state during any month.

Meantime, 41 of the mainland 48 states had above normal, much-above normal or a record warmest July.

Only seven of 48 states – all west of the Rocky Mountains – experienced a July average temperature near or below the 20th century average.
