Snow fell in parts of northern China this week causing travel disruptions on major highways according to officials.
On Friday, Beijing experienced its first snowfall of the season which authorities say created traffic chaos during the morning rush hour and stranded flights.
My friend in Beijing tells me when snow falls in the Chinese capital, it seldom accumulates to more than a few centimetres and rarely stays on the ground for long.
China Daily notes last winter in Beijing was especially mild with a snowfall not recorded until February 9, 2011.
However, the earliest snowfall in the last 10 years was recorded on November 13, 2001.
