Mother Nature confused?

Dandelion spotted in Moncton, 03 Dec 2011 (TWN)

Normally dandelions are among the first flowering plants (OK, weeds) of spring in New Brunswick – typically spotted in March.

But to have one pop up in December (see above) would indicate that Mother Nature thinks it’s already spring – so does this mean we’ve bypassed winter altogether?

Not quite but with daytime highs hovering near 14 C in Moncton today and 9 C yesterday (normal high is 1 C), you can understand why plants seem a bit confused.

UPDATE – Seven communities in New Brunswick set new record highs for this date with the hotspot being Bouctouche at 13.7 C.
