Flash freeze!

A few snowbanks remain during the calm before the storm in Moncton, 11 January 2016 (Dearing)

The puddles of rain became covered in ice this afternoon in Greater Moncton as the temperature took a dramatic tumble during a flash freeze.

The thermometer peaked at 9.0 C by 11am before dropping like a thud to 2.0 C by 2pm and falling below freezing by 5pm.

The extreme cold will be short-lived as Environment Canada is forecasting a snow event on Wednesday with up to 20 cm possible.
