Deluge in Dubai

The Middle Eastern metropolis of Dubai had more than a year’s worth of rain in mere hours which caused extensive flash flooding in the desert city this week.

Dubai International Airport, the world’s second busiest, was still struggling to function days after 250 mm of rain fell in the normally arid region.

Officials say this was the heaviest rainfall to hit United Arab Emirates in at least 75 years.

In neighbouring Oman, at least 20 people were killed in the floodwaters.

Experts say cloud seeding was not responsible for the deluge despite some reports to the contrary.
